Meet Jodi Pessell
Jodi spent 26 years working in food safety regulation at the local health department level. She worked across inspection, standardized food training, supervision of regulatory staff, plan review, complaint and outbreak investigation, and enforcement communication.
For many businesses, that role can feel intimidating. Jodi understands that. She also understands that most operators are not trying to cut corners. They are trying to run a business, serve customers well, train their teams, and keep up with a long list of responsibilities.
Food Safety Matters exists to bridge that gap. Jodi now uses her experience to help food businesses understand the rules, prepare more effectively, and build safer, more confident operations.

Why Businesses Choose Food Safety Matters
Because getting food safety wrong can cost far more than most operators realize.
It can slow openings, complicate ownership changes, increase inspection pressure, create staff confusion, expose the business to avoidable risk, and in the worst cases damage reputation and operations in serious ways. Jodi helps businesses address food safety with clarity, confidence, and practical guidance that supports real-world success.
Michigan-First Support With Broader Reach
Michigan is Jodi’s core market and where her regulatory background runs deepest. Food Safety Matters also supports businesses throughout the Midwest and can work with food businesses in other markets as well.
